Encouragement for a World In Crisis

Day 7

Day 7 of our series finishes with the things we need to do to make all parts of life work for us: focus on the unseen, not the seen…

Devotional Point 4 today: Let’s adjust our sights from earth’s struggles

Scripture 4 today: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: One of the results of being a Christian is that our transformed souls have a “mind’s eye“ that others don’t have. Here Paul is talking about seeing with that transformed mind’s eye, not our normal vision. We are the ones who make the moment by moment decision on the things we will “see“. Being able to see with our new “mind’s eye“ gives us the capacity to take the transformed perspective the Holy Spirit gives us to every situation.

Question for the day: What are you seeing today?

Other Notes: I hope you have enjoyed the reflections on the Good News we have for a world in crisis. Tomorrow we will start on a 7-day look at the idea of “waiting” on God, as an Advent precursor to Christmas in just a few weeks time…

Day 6

Day 6 gives us some great insight about worry. When you trust God you don’t have to sorry, he has promised to take care of us. Maybe not as we would like it, but what He knows we need…

Devotional Point 4 today: Seeking God first frees us from the worries and pressures of earth…

Scripture 4 today: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:34‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: it is interesting to consider that time would have its own emotions. Jesus quite literally tells them that tomorrow, a unit of time, can it does worry by itself. This is just one of many things that Jesus says that usually make no sense to us, and appear right out of left field. However, the message is quite clear: Jesus says either depend on yourself or depend on me, you make the choice…

Question for the day: Who are you depending on today?

Day 5

Day 5 delivers the most important success factor for Joshua, and us, he was devoted to knowing God’s word…

Devotional Point 4 today: His presence is the prize. It’s what we get for all eternity.

Scripture 4 today: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: These words from God to Joshua come straight on the hills of his commandment to Joshua about spending time in God’s word. At that time, there were only five books of the Bible, but he was commanded to know these inside and out, and it was the source of his life long success. Since that time, nothing has changed except that we have more books and more revelation. However we are still commanded to know God’s word and meditate on it day or night; it is not a secret it is the secret going forward.

Question for the day: how dedicated are you to knowing every detail of God’s word, what do you need to change about this?

Day 4 sorry, video should say day 4…

Day 4 gives us the secret for how this good news will reach the world we live in: Love…

Devotional Point 4 today: He uses the most unlikely people to be His vessels of hope on this earth…

Scripture 4 today: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: most of us in Christianity today would settle for cessation of the hostility and anger and character assassination that seems to be so prevalent in our world today. We have settled for not even worrying about Love, because everything else is so bad. The answer is that we are to rise above the Christian hate and anxiety around us. In the Greek, it is to “strain like and athlete” to love, not if it feels good or if we get around to it…

Question for the day: who are you straining to love deeply today?

Day 3

Day 3 digs in to how you deal with on-going pain… God either heals it or gives us the grace to cope with it..

Devotional Point 4 today: We need to be weak to see God’s power work best…

Scripture 4 today: “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: So, when Paul asked for healing, two things could have happened: 1-God could have healed him right there, and 2-God could give him the on-going grace to live with and cope with it. God chose what’s behind door number 2. Why? So that Paul could learn to wake up every morning depending on the grace of God. Whatever it was, it didn’t kill him. Distracted him for sure, but did not kill him, he was violently crucified. Sometimes God has a plan that we just don’t get…

Question for the day: how have you learned to live with the things God wants to teach you? Me, reluctantly…

Day 2

Day 2 gives us some insight into the devotional point about changing the way we think, it is all about what we put in our minds. And who can stand in the way of that? You are right, no one…

Devotional Point 4 today: What we fill ourselves up with every day is important.

Scripture 4 today: “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: we have incredible hope going forward, because whilst there are many enemies that would use any tactic to take us down, we have a God who is quite a bit bigger than all of that. And what is one of the main key is to tap into the Power? Well, it is as the single most important issue of the devotional points out: what we fill ourselves with every day, and what we think about read about and experience shapes our ability to see God’s actual power in the world we live in

Question for the day: what are you doing today and every day to shape your thinking to allow God to work in your life?

Day 1

Day 1 gets us straight into the reason we have a message for this world we live in: hope…

Devotional Point 4 today: We can’t insist on our idea of a bright and hopeful future.

Scripture 4 today: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: We are not going to wake to much good news today about the world we live in. Today’s Omicron variant of the Covid will be followed buy another and another after that. What was life before has gone, there is a new way of living now. Not a new world or a new world order, just a new/different way of living. Because of the Holy Spirit in us we have incredible hope, we have a new world, without Him, there is no new world and no hope…

Question for the day: What can you do today to bring hope to another? I know I need to make some phone calls of encouragement to give some hope…
