The Power of Father Love

Day 7

Today we look at what we are choosing to put in front of ourselves…

Devotional Point 4 today: let’s be proactively mindful of what we choose to put in front of us…

Scripture 4 today: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: When we first become Christians, spiritual things are a subset of our “normal” life. As we are transformed, “normal” life becomes a subset of of our spiritual life. As a subset of our earthly lives, everting that we have and are and go through are no longer as important as they once were, and sometimes bordering on irrelevant… This only happens with a 24/7 focus on the “heavenly things”…

Day 6

Today we get a bit of practical advice for something that seems so small at the time but can blow up for a lifetime…

Devotional Point 4 today: Christ never embarrasses us for our failings…

Scripture 4 today: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: we are called to quite a counter cultural Christianity. The world we live in does not cover anyone else’s sins, it exposes them and glorifies in the exposure of them. Which is why most people go to great lengths to cover the sin and mistakes they have made in the past. Covering the sins of our children and our family and our our close friends it’s something that we are call too in a big way… this certainly raises some very large questions about how we are to then live…

Day 5

Today we get the bottom line from John about spiritual growth, just don’e love the world…

Devotional Point 4 today: We fathers have the responsibility to model for our children what loving what God loves and hating what God hates…

Scripture 4 today: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: there really are two parts to concept of love: what to do and what not to do. We have taken a closer look at the things to do, the things not to do can be quickly and easily summed up in this verse, just don’t love the world. John then goes on to describe it quite simply: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These three things pretty much make up every advertisement you will see today. So see it for what it is and get past it with God’s love…

Day 4

Today we are treated to an incredible secret about how to get over anger…

Devotional Point 4 today: Fully developed agape love is not easily angered.

Scripture 4 today: “It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: There are a lot of books written about anger and the emotions leading up to it, but Paul cuts right through all that and gives us the solution, something that we either overlook or just never pay attention to: it keeps no record of wrongs. All anger from myself and the world around me is sourced in my keeping records of wrongs. I was taught to do it from a very young age, we all were. Anger is such an enormous thing in the world today. God’s answer? Simple, just don’t keep any record of wrongs. But, that is obviously harder than it looks on the surface, but a pretty good place to start…

Day 3

Devotional Point 4 today: Our charge as Christ-followers is to be an example of courteousness…

Scripture 4 today: “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭4:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: To say that children model what they see is certainly not new news to any of us. I love Eli’s phrase, and example of courteousness. We need to be courteous, but that does not always mean we need to be nice. We do not ever need to accept injustice, as we need to let our children see that we never accept injustice. However, they learn a lot when they see us deal with it courteously. I just love how Paul tells us to “make the most of every opportunity”, something to consider throughout the day…

Day 2

Today we look at one of the most crucial components of fathering: humility.

Devotional Point 4 today: A key to raising a child in today’s social environment is to model humility.

Scripture 4 today: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: We live in a world that tells us and our children to do everything out of selfish ambition and that conceit can never be too vain. Exactly the other way around…Fortunately Paul gives us the solution in 2 Cor. 10:5; taking all the thoughts of “this world” captive. Fathering strong comes from living strong. Living strong models humility…

Day 1

Today we start our new series on the Power of Father Love, the source of all love everywhere…

Devotional Point 4 today: We are attracted to and enjoy the truth of His Word and the things that pertain to it.

Scripture 4 today: “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: when we’re looking at the interactions Christian both with each other and the world at large, the word “love“ rarely comes to mind. It’s the reason why there are 1800 denominations in the US. In most cases, doctrinal correctness is valued far more than love. And when do you start integrating that with politics, it goes horribly wrong. God put us here to understand the depth of His love to us and to represent that love to the world that He wants to be transformed, one person at a time…
