The Leadership Secrets of Jesus

Starting Tomorrow:

Day 10

Day 10 delivers the conclusion to the Leadership Style of Jesus, which is to not just “pass it on”, but to intentionally deliver it to the next generation…

Devotional Point 4 today: we must be on the lookout for investment opportunities…

Scripture 4 today: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: Now that I have such a better understanding of the concept of disciple or Talmidim”, the concept of evangelism takes on a totally different meaning from what we have been taught for the last 50 yrears. We need to build into people the full set of qualities of Jesus, not through knowledge transfer, but through living it out with them. Most of what I hve learned about evangelism has been tossed out on its ear… Next…

Question for the day: How can you become a Talmidim?

Other Notes: I hope that you have enjoyed these 10 days of looking at the leadership style of Jesus. nest we are moving on to a 6 day study by John Mark Comer called “Live No Lies” it is a 6-day overview of his book by the same name which I finished yesterday, it is very hard hitting…

Day 9

Day 9 gives us the insight we need to function best in the work-a-day world…

Devotional Point 4 today: Jesus led without any expectation of recognition

Scripture 4 today: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: Paul makes an incredibly important statement here, because he is saying that all work both secular and sacred is working for the Lord. So, the “work of the work“ is actually working for Jesus. Standout excellent work is something that is pretty rare in the world we live in, so producing that makes you stand out and makes the things that makes you stand out, stand out as well… God wants everything we do to be done with excellence!

Question for the day: are you conscious today of doing everything you do with excellence? It certainly makes you think…

Day 8

Day 8 gives us the secret on how to approach every transaction, with serving and humility…

Devotional Point 4 today: Jesus rejected the world’s definition of power.

Scripture 4 today: “The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew‬ ‭23:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: today we are looking at one of the most important leadership styles of Jesus, something that underpinned everything he did. Humility is not something that the world we live in either espouses or even accepts. During the broadcast cycle of the church, almost everyone was battling against almost everyone else to be the biggest and best. But that was not God’s plan and most of them have been taken down. We are to be focused on how to “serve“ in every transaction with people today!

Question for the day: do you approach every transaction from a place of serving? This has become my default approach.

Day 7

Day 7 cuts to the chase on one of the most important things in the body of Christ: sin and what to do about it…

Devotional Point 4 today: we must offer forgiveness

Scripture 4 today: “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: Interesting that’s John says that if anyone sins then “we” have an advocate. Sin is a “me” thing, but the forgiveness is a “we” thing. That is just not present in today’s church, because we do not accept the “we” role in the sin of others, we were taught to seek to crucify and destroy the sinner, not the sin… Primarily we need to learn to pray for those who have sinned

Question for the day: How would you rate yourself on your willingness to forgive others when they hurt you? Trying to be better every day, as this is where it starts.

Day 6

Day 6 throws out a central issue for Christians today, lying…

Devotional Point 4 today: authentic leaders must always speak the truth…

Scripture 4 today: “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: we were taught from a very young age to lie. Mostly, to save face. We always view the concept of saving face to be a “white lie“ so ultimately excusable. Both Jesus and Paul want us to know that since we are in the process of being “transformed“, there is just no excuse. In our new lives as disciples of Jesus, we have put off “the old“ and taken on a new self, its self that is enabled 24/7 by the Holy Spirit.

Question for the day: Are there certain situations where you find yourself bending the truth to please people? I was incentivised from a very early age not to tell the truth, especially about the abuse in my family. That has been very difficult to get past.

Day 5

Day 5 gives us one of the toughest challenges in the world we live in: Love your enemies…

Devotional Point 4 today: Generous leaders see the needs of the people around them as opportunities…

Scripture 4 today: “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: The concept of enemy in Jesus day was a little more severe than it is today. Enemies took body parts from each other, usually resulting in death. Enemies today damage us, and sometimes in a very big way, in fact they can totally ruin your life. But enemies themselves get in trouble and often need lending to. Jesus does not say give to them, but lend to them, and then not to despair when nothing comes back…Totally counter cultural think to do, can only happen by the work of the Holy Spirit in us…

Question for the day: Would others consider you a generous person? I think I am…

Day 4

Day 4 gives us a key to living the life in the ever-changing world we live in, being immovable in Jesus…

Devotional Point 4 today: true leaders stand up for what is right…

Scripture 4 today: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:58‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: One of the popular phrases today is “echo chamber”, the thing that bounces and echos around yours and others heads and groups of heads. The thing that keeps coming up, the thing that causes you to wonder if this is all real.  Paul says that we are to clear the echo chamber of the noise of confusion and temptation and remain immovably focused on the work He has for us. This takes daily work and focus to accomplish…

Day 3

Day 3 gives us the standard for our relationships with all others: love…

Devotional Point 4 today: He was notorious for placing the needs of people above the man-made rules of His day…

Scripture 4 today: “For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: The standard for “Love“ is very high. We are only able to love others, including our neighbours, because of the incredible work Jesus did for us on the cross in our hearts… We aren’t  generally feel a great deal of “love“ out there because Love has to come out of the heart and most of what we see is the manifestation of the outrageously evil hearts that all of us were born with. We need teh love of Jesus to show through our hearts today more than ever…

Question for the day: Are you holding to rules for the sake of tradition? I dispensed with this a long time ago…

Day 2

Day 2 gives us the view of Jesus and all His sheep

Devotional Point 4 today: A true shepherd-leader knows, serves, and sacrifices for the sheep.

Scripture 4 today: “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.” ‭‭John‬ ‭10:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: As we progress into this new cycle of the church’s growth, the “Engagement Cycle”, we see how preposterous the divisions among Christians actually is. Picture all these sheep in their sheep pens deciding that they don’t like these other sheep, so they will go and for a sub-pen group of sheep that are “better” than the other sheep. But we have to remember a couple things, first, being called a sheep is not a compliment, and second being a shepherd in history was not an esteemed position, so see us for who we are and get on with it…

Question for the day: How does the story about us as sheep affect you? Being know as sheep is not complimentary…

Day 1

Day 1 of this series gives us an important secret to understanding Christian ministry:sowing and reaping are just as important as each other…

Devotional Point 4 today: Everyone receives help from the people who have gone before…

Scripture 4 today: “Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.” ‭‭John‬ ‭4:37‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection 4 today: if you change your perspective and look at all human interactions that we have either sowing or reaping, it will completely change your viewpoint. most of the work in growing anything is in the 90% of the time before the harvest. Fields have to be ploughed, seed has to be put into the soil, weeds have to the pulled up, and the crops need to be tended… We can’t think any less of the people doing their sowing, it’s is they who make the crops harvest-able

Question for the day: Do you take time to acknowledge the contributions others make to your successes? Try too do this all the time…
